Using the Collections
Access Policy



Access to archival records at the George Meany Memorial Archives will be governed as follows:

1. Generally, official records of the AFL, CIO, and AFL-CIO will be closed for research for twenty years from their date of creation. Unprocessed or restricted records older than twenty years will be closed. AFL-CIO Executive Council Minutes are closed for research for ten years from their date of creation.

2. All records in the public domain, such as proceedings, newspapers, and press releases, are open for research without restriction.

3. The official records of constitutional bodies and institutes as well as personal papers, oral history tapes, and transcripts will be available subject to access terms negotiated between the George Meany Memorial Archives and the donor.

4. The George Meany Memorial Archives will periodically review the access policy which, in general, conforms to the "Standards for Access to Research Materials in Archives and Manuscript Repositories," approved by the Society of American Archivists, December 1973.
