THE GEORGE MEANY MEMORIAL ARCHIVES

About the Archives Building

Sculpture of George Meany by Robert Berks

The 33,000 square foot George Meany Memorial Archives building is designed around a five-story storage area that can hold over 23,000 cubic feet of records in special temperature- and humidity-controlled vaults. While the second floor of the building is devoted to the research room and archives staff areas, the ground floor features the exhibit area. A bronze sculpture of George Meany by sculptor Robert Berks dominates the front lobby of the building. Berks, who has created sculptures of more than 300 persons in public and private life, is best known for his sculpted bust of President Kennedy in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
