William “Bill” Steiner a plumber from Local 398 in Montclair, California, was prepared to dip into his savings or use his credit card to pay for his fall tuition to attend the NLC, but thanks to the $1,590 he received from the Union Plus National Labor College Scholarship Program he didn’t have to touch either.
“NLC is a very supportive, dynamic way to earn a degree, and I’m grateful Union Plus is making educational dreams come true for working families,” says Bill a third-generation member of his local.
Bill hopes that a college degree will help him follow in his father’s footsteps of becoming an organizer.
In addition to working full-time, Bill, a father of three young sons, teaches apprenticeship courses for his union a few nights a week and is actively involved in his union.
“It’s not easy going back to college but it’s definitely worth losing some sleep to get a degree to help further your career. The knowledge you gain from the classes and from other union members is really worth it.”
Although he had mixed feelings about earning a degree online, now that he’s been through the experience, he’s a big proponent of NLC’s online program. Bill is close to finishing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Labor Studies and says that the experience at NLC has been great.
At NLC, you get to know other union members and even become friends.
Scholarships for the Fall semester are available to help your dreams of completing a degree come true, make sure you apply by August 6th to qualify for federal financial aid and scholarships.
