Lesson 1: Windows Desktop
Overview
The software that manages the components of a computer is called an operating system. The operating system on a PC is Microsoft Windows XP. The screen displayed after you turn on the computer and login is called the desktop. The desktop contains the following items:
- Taskbar
- Program Icons
- Shortcuts to start software programs
- My Documents
- Recycle Bin
This tutorial identifies components of the Windows XP desktop: taskbar, Start menu, Word shortcut, My Documents, My Computer, Recycle Bin.
