Federal Financial Aid Eligibility at National Labor College
The U.S. Government offers a number of grant and loan programs to help eligible students finance college. Federal student aid covers expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. This aid may also assist you in paying for a computer or dependent care.
In order to be eligible:
- You must have at least 56 credits either earned at NLC or transferred from other institutions or apprenticeships.
- You must be enrolled in one of our bachelor's degree programs.
- You must be enrolled at National Labor College for a minimum of six credit hours and these courses must span the length of an academic term.
- For example, you must take two 15-week courses simultaneously or two 7-week courses consecutively in a semester.
Applying for Federal Financial Aid
- Complete and submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). National Labor College's School Code is 034555.
- After submitting the FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) by email containing your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
- Create a free profile on National Labor College's Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO).
- Conduct a "virtual interview" through National Labor College's VFAO.
- You will need your EFC to complete this interview.
NLC participates in the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, and Direct Loan programs.
- Federal Grants - In general, grants do not have to be repaid.
- Federal Loans - In general, loans offer funds at a reduced interest rate or with differed payment but must be repaid.

Dropping a course
A student registered for a degree program course is permitted to drop the class and receive a refund through the end of the second week of a 7-week course or through the end of the third week of the 15-week course. A dropped course will not appear on the transcript.
Students receiving any type of financial assistance should contact the Department of Financial Aid at financialaid@nlc.edu to determine how the change in credit load will impact their financial aid, scholarship, GI Bill benefits, etc.
Tuition refunds are prorated according to the schedules below. Refer to the tuition and fees page for the specific drop dates for each semester. Different refund policies apply for courses offered by non-degree programs.

Veterans Benefits
Students seeking to use Veterans Benefits should contact the Veterans Administration about obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility or Change of Training Location to provide to NLC. Please note that while NLC is pleased to participate in Veterans Benefits, the College does not intervene with the Veterans Administration on behalf of students.
