John Bacon at computer“This degree will allow me to bring my workplace up-to-date with cutting edge technology and new software, making the company more competitive,” says John Bacon who is pursuing a degree in Construction Management with NLC

An Ironworker for the past 24 years, John thinks his new degree will make both himself and his workplace more competitive. Today, he works as an Operations Manager for a steel erections company, HB Welding. The Construction Management degree program at NLC teaches the latest trends, best practices, and technology so John can be proactive in positioning his company to be more competitive.

My goal in going back to school is to improve my workplace.

Being a dedicated union member has benefited him and his family. “I make a good living, have steady employment, a pension and medical coverage for my family,” says John. John comes from a union family – his dad was a union Ironworker and his sister is an operating engineer.

Check out labor’s college, says John

John encourages other union members to follow in his footsteps.

If you are thinking about it, you should go for it. There is no such thing as a wasted education.

Scholarships for the Fall semester are available to help your dreams of completing a degree come true.  Make sure you apply by August 6th to qualify for federal financial aid and scholarships.
