Training Locations

The Conference Center at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) is conveniently located in Linthicum, Maryland next to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) and I-95. It is a union facility and home of the International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots, AFL-CIO.

Programs

MITAGS is home to the Bonnie Ladin Union Skills Program and the School of Labor Studies degree course residencies of Living Labor History and Capstone Writing Seminar.

Traveling to MITAGS

Air – Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) offers the most convenient airline access to MITAGS and the most reasonable airfares. BWI is served by American, Delta, Southwest and United. MITAGS offers a free shuttle from the BWI airport to MITAGS. Call the MITAGS front desk at 410-859-5700 for pickup. A courtesy phone is also located in the baggage claim area of BWI.

Transportation from other airports:

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
    Super Shuttle: $45, Taxi: Approximately $90
     
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
    Super Shuttle: $74, Taxi: Approximately $120

Train – MITAGS is also easily reached by Amtrak or Light Rail via the BWI stop. MITAGS’ free shuttle also picks up at the BWI train station. Call the front desk at 410-859-5700 for pickup.

Car – MITAGS is convenient to I-295 and I-95 and there is ample free parking. Please allow extra travel time during rush hour because the Baltimore/Washington area is re-nowned for heavy traffic.

Costs

Overnight rates including tax, per person (includes all meals and breaks):
Single: $198.10/night, Double: $144.99/night

Day rate (for anyone not staying overnight) including tax, per person (includes conference services, lunch and breaks): $47.70

Reservations

Students should first register for NLC classes. NLC will send a registration confirmation email with overnight room reservation information, including a MITAGS Group ID number and password. Room reservations must be made at least 3 weeks before class.

Traveling to the AFL-CIO

Air – Reagan National Airport (DCA) offers the most convenient airline access to the AFL-CIO and downtown Washington, DC. From the airport, take the metro to McPherson Square or Farragut West station.

Train – The AFL-CIO is accessible by Amtrak (Union Station) and then Metro (McPherson Square or Farragut West stations).

Car – The AFL-CIO is located in downtown Washington, DC across from the White House. Use Mapquest or a similar website to plan the best route from your location. There is limited street parking but there are several parking garages in the area. Expect to pay about $21 per day to park at a garage.
