FUNDING UPDATE
MAy 22, 2013
DOT Hazardous Materials Instructors Training
Funding has been received from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that will allow us to continue the important work of educating our members on the hazards associated with transporting, shipping and receiving Hazardous Materials. The Rail Workers Hazardous Materials Training Program prides itself on delivering the most valuable worker safety training available. Peer Instructors are members of the railroad labor community and take pride in offering the latest and most up-to-date information, teaching techniques and peer support.
Last year we updated our DOT trainer guides and student handbooks along with the toolbox training kit to reflect the 2012 ERG updates and the changes to the Hazard Communication standard. Additional changes to curriculum incorporate input from participants and students to increase both delivery and understanding of the regulations governing Hazardous Materials in transportation.
In addition to the Trainer Refresher Course scheduled to take place August 18 - 23, 2013 at the Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies, we currently have two Train-the-Trainer programs scheduled for:
July 14-20, 2013, and
September 22-28, 2013

The Rail Workers Hazardous Materials Training Program also receives funding from the US Department of Transportation to conduct Hazmat Instructor Train the Trainer courses at the National Labor College/George Meany Campus in Silver Spring, Maryland. This training is offered to rail workers who have completed the pre-requisite training. (See Course Dates for more information and training schedule).
