Within the first week after the Phelps Dodge strike began on July 1, 1983, the company secured injunctions to prevent striking miners from the assemblies at the plant gates in Morenci, Ajo, and Douglas, Arizona (shown here). Strikers' wives immediately took their places on the picket lines.
